Sending out strong thoughts of support to you, MC, and Secret.

Whether tumor or granuloma, it picked the wrong bunch to mess with...roadies and their birds who own them are tough cookies...we're fighters...

I'm sorry to read you got bad news today. The good news is that the vet feels it is operable. I'm under the impression that lumps and tumors are fairly common in older birds. I've known an older cockatoo that had several small surgeries to remove them. I've also met an amazon owner that never vetted her bird and found a tumor too large and advanced to do surgery on. So, the fact that you followed up with a vet check is about all you can do to deal with these things in older birds. You are a good bird owner.

@Clueless, ok you are great bird mom first off, never doubt that. I know it's scary as h e double hockey sticks, but you can do this. One day, one hour, one minute at a time.
I wonder if dandelion greens would help Secret. I know that Dr. Paul's Monster really loved them. Dr. Paul got them from some place online as seeds and grew them all winter for Monster.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I agree totally w/ this. When stress seems to consume, I say this over & over in my head. It seems to help & repeating it over & over takes me on other thoughts than the stress.

I'm so sorry! Toweling is all about practicing. However, if the surgery is on the crop area your going to have to be extra careful not to wrap in that area. I use fuzzy kitchen towels (not bar mops) on Buddy but after 2+ years of 2 x daily & then 1 x a day. Its old hat for us.

You could ask the vets if they can have some "tech" do it w/ you before the surgery. Just a thought.

They also have dandelion greens at Whole Foods, by the kale and swiss chard.

The vet said that after MC's surgery, he'd come home on pain meds once a day. The vet didn't mention anything else.

In fact, he said there would be no medication placed on the surgery spot.

@Rain Bow doesn't sound like I'll need to towel.

@taxidermynerd I need to make chop for Secret but I can't identify most of those green things.

They should have it all clearly labeled :) They have a ton of different greens and veggies, most organic.

I'm so sorry. Sending prayers for the 3 of you. You are a great bird mom. There are just some things we can't control. Every time my tiel Sunny got sick I felt like a failure. But my vet kept reassuring me I was doing everything right. We can just try our best.
