So MC will have to have surgery. I'm crying in the parking lot. Can't get him in next week, so the 6th of January. Possible skin tumor or granuloma caused by bacteria. If tumor, could be benign or cancerous. If granuloma can be curative with surgery and all of it is removed. Outpatient surgery, home same day with pain meds.

Secrets liver has gotten worse. AST is now 762, Bile Acid 179.

I'm feeling like a lousy human caretaker right now.

MC is sitting behind me beak grinding........

Aww damn... I told ML by PM I've seen tumors appear as your first photos, it's quite common in amazons but I didn't want you to worry over your holiday. :( Just damn!

Alright Clueless... Time to put your brave face on and just do what you need to do. Rosie did quite a few surgeries like this and she handled it without issue. You are just going to do ONE day at a time. You going to cry now to get it out and then you are going to do what you need to do to help your sweetie and keep him calm and happy. You just have to be the bad guy to do the right things. You can do this, I promise.

So sorry to hear this but like Sarah said, you can do this and we'll all be here for you for support.
Its ok to cry for them, they are your babies, but dont beat yourself up for this, its not your fault and you've been great for Secret and MC.

Don't much feel like I've been good. Look at Secret's values!

@Macawnutz vet mentioned watching for oozing.when I told him they scheduled for week after next. Vet was thinking surgery next week but the staff didn't have opening.

How will I see oozing? I still don't know how to towel.

Broke my heart, he did a "dead chicken" trick in his travel cage before the vet took him out with a towel.

I am so happy that you first saw it and second make that fast vet exam. That is what a great parront do.
The word surgery can also mean remove something that shouldn't be their. And then it is a good thing.
Only see it that way. :)
And you did excellent, and of course you cried. That is what we do because they are our family and sometimes our best friends.

Many comforting hugs from me! ♥

A lot of these illnesses are genetic, so even tho you fed the bird the perfect diet you can't change genetics. Alcohol free Liquid Milk Thistle/Dandelion Root is good for liver issues. You can find it in powder for too.

Toweling..... Many parrots never get used to a towel. My Macaw was abused with a towel by previous owner. They snapped her with towels, so she hates towels. She nailed her first vet when he held a towel in front of her. I warned him. Her new vet can towel her with no issues. I can get a towel over her after a shower to dry her off a bit without getting bit. Place towel over bird & grab the bird by the back of the neck. Place your thumb under the lower mandible (jaw). This is how the vets do it. This is a video by Lafeber on toweling birds:
When I need to towel Jengo (CAG) I get her on the floor first, so she won't try to take off & fall, then towel her.

Clueless, you can and will do what ever is needed to care for MC. She is your best friend and you can't give her anything, but your best. That video with Dr. O is very good and you need to practice.

Don't worry about the surgery - first, there is nothing you can do - second if you trust your vet, trust him. The owee is surface so that should make the surgery much easier. If the mass is cancer, it most likely is a sarcoma and those are handled most successfully. Rosie had several of those removed in her 70's and none ever came back.

I don't cry, haven't for 30 years - I decided that crying doesn't solve a darned thing. If you have to cry, please don' do it around your birds - go hide from them and come back when you aren't crying. Amazons are very sensitive to your emotions.

Keep that Milk Thistle up and increase it somewhat and cut down more on his fats. Get him to move as much as possible. Read this again - the diets are as important for liver as it for atherosclerosis. In Depth Look at Atherosclerosis in Birds

You are the best mom in the world.

Oh dear... I'm sorry Secret will have to go through surgery. I know it's a worrisome looking nasty but don't let your mind go to bad assumptions. We will all send positive thoughts and prayers for successful removal and treatment. Some zons just don't make it easy for us to care for them. Get rid of those guilt feelings and go forward with a strong heart. All of God's Blessings for Secret.... and you!!!

I will say this much, for all little MC went through he was just relaxing grinding his beak. What a little trooper!

I am so sorry you both are going through this. Hold on to the positive and take it one day at a time. You caught it, took him in and have a care plan. Keep making memories with MC ,lots of fun adventures! The surgery will come when it comes.

MC, my little buddy, has to have the surgery.

Secret, my little terror and avatar, has the bad liver.

Oh I'm sorry.... I merged the two into Secret. God's blessings for both of them! If and when I have to towel either of my two biggies I like to put them on the floor first. For me, it's less awkward than going straight at them and I'm less likely to get bitten.
