Hello my Pi loving friends,
We are very excited to be bringing home a 3 year old male ekkie in the next week or two. He is reported by his current owner to be very sweet and gentle, but quite hormonal and tends to hump her a lot (lol). His owner is very put off by this behavior and doesn't really have time to attend to him, so she's rehoming him. He also used to share a cage with another bird (in the household he lived in prior to his current household) but his current owner doesn't know much about that situation. She's only had him 3 months!
I was wondering if anybody else has a Pionus and an Eclectus? There is an obvious size difference between them, so I know close supervision will be needed. Our pi has historically been pretty chill with other birds, and she began life in a multi bird household. My hope is that they'll learn to get along well enough that they can be out and hanging out in the house at the same time. I figure the birdy companionship will be nice even if they can't be around each other much. Our Pi is flighted and a pretty strong flyer although she is a bit lazy. Sounds like the ekkie is partially flighted.
Any suggestions or experiences of these two species living together?
