I have had my cockatiel for 3 weeks. l purchased him at a pet store and realized I would have to work hard at taming him. He was 8 months old when I got him. I thought I was making progress with him. All of a sudden today he is nippy and hissing. He had been whistling and appeared to be happy. Today, along with the hissing and nippy behavior he has been very quiet. Any Ideas as to what might be going on with him?

I'm having the same situation happen with me! Not sure if it is but might be lack of trust, keen to see what other 'tiel parents say!

Today is somewhat better. He is not friendly, but he is not hissing. Still trying to give him his space and trying hard to understand cockatiel language.

Don't have tiel tame experience. But cage set up , size of cage( larger better) and perch options and cage placement can help them feel more secure.

If you want to share a picture of your set up , we can see if anything might help him feel safer and secure.

The hardest part of being a new parent is the building trust , when we know we just want all good things for them .

Birds are like people. They have their good days and bad days. I wouldnt get discouraged just because of one bad day.
