I just brought a new budgie home from a breeder and didn't notice until 2 days later that his legs are splayed. Was already irritated the flight wings were cut. Anyhow she did offer to take him back but I don't want to since I know I will take good care of him. He is 10 weeks old so not sure it is correct able. What do you all think? Could this lead to problems in the future with him? I want the flock to accept him and I want him to be able to live as normal as possible.

Hello,

When you go for your wellness check at the vet, definitely ask and see, but it is likely difficult to correct - though I would still try because you never know.

I want the flock to accept him and I want him to be able to live as normal as possible.
My partners uncle had a lovebird with a severe splay and he went on to live a good life and even bonded with a mate. His passing was due to kids throwing fireworks in the street outside - not realted to the splay at all.

I will definitely ask the vet. So far this one is super cranky and my female keeps trying to rap with him bit no luck so far. I have four keets now and I'm hoping everyone can live in harmony.

Yes! He’s beautiful. I’m tagging @AussieBird , because she has females. I’ve read they can get annoyed with baby males. Maybe they’ll need a more careful introduction. Sorry I can’t help with the splayed legs, but they may be able to with the integration into the flock.

Looking at it, it doesn't look real clear. He is a fussy one. Always complaining if my other 3 keets get near him. Acts more like a female LOL. Not even 1 week with me so hoping he adjusts to his new flock

Is this a female?

He looks male to me, though it’s a bit blurry, but you said your other was & I’ve heard this combo (older female + baby male) can be at first delicate.

I have a male budgie with a severe splay. Couldn't be corrected due to surgery sadly. I wanted to comment that my male was very very agitated for the first two weeks after I adopted him. I believe due to that he had dificulty moving around and wanted to defend himself. Because your baby can't fly and is still young maybe you are also seeing a little bit of frutration as he learns how to get around. Not sure if my experience is helpful but wanted to share because you mentioned him being cranky:)
His legs could lead to atrithis in the future, I give mine a bit of fish oil over his food to help prevent that, best to check with your vet what he recommends.
He(or she) is beautiful!

Thank you for all of the information. I will definitely ask the vet. I love him and will make sure he has whatever he needs. Should I use vet tape on wood perches? All of my perches are natural branches. I will take a picture of my cage to see what you think about setup. I'm also attaching a picture of a granite stone my sister bought me after my soul bird passed

You could try flat perches for him to have a little rest on not sure if they help with sprayed legs though or make things worse he’s super cute

It looks amazing! I love all your budgies, so beautiful. Especually the one in the door opening:heart:
Does he climb on the bars? Mine can cling to bars by flying to them but can't climb. I do some extra thin ropes(6-8 millimeter) between perches to connect difficult to reach perches. Of course it really depends on your little one and how he moves around if he even needs a little extra care. I think he will love the setup even more when his wings grow out. Volar doesn't climb and only flies to get around.

I forgot to mention Volar can get pressure spots on his foot, which can lead to bumblefoot, if he perches on the same perch too much. I have tried vet wrapping his favorite perches but he avoids them after that :roflmao: So sometimes I have to change which branches/ropes are on the favored spots to help him exercise his feet properly. He favours really small diameter perches over flat/thick ones but maybe yours thinks differently.

Sorry for the late reply...
How's the little one been settling in? You could definitely try vet wrapping perches if you wanted to. When I vet wrapped perches for my elderly budgie I also put a bit of fleece padding under the wrap for a few perches, just makes it comfier and will help with any pressure sores. If going for platform perches I'd try and only used textured one such as cork so his legs are not accidently splaying more.
Looking at your cage setup if they're still not getting along great you could try adding some more toys to "break their visual contact" a bit. I don't know if it's just me but I always feel this helps mine get along better. Did you rearrange the cage at all when you introduced him?

I will buy some vet tape and thanks for info on felt underneath. That is a great idea. Everyone is getting along so much better but maybe I do need to add more toys. Also thanks for info on platform perch made of cork.
