Hi, I’m curious if anyone has incubated eggs and placed the chicks, once hatched, back with the parents if they were still incubating other eggs?

Do they care for them?

Thanks!

That is a risky thing to do.
Often if the eggs have been taken for incubation, the chicks are hand reared to avoid the chance of rejection if returned to the nest.
@BrianB

Though unhelpful, I was just reading about the Rupells griffon vulture chick that was incubated and then returned to the parent once hatched at london zoo. Not a parrot though, so can 't really get any useful parallels.

@Zara Thank you for your response! The vulture event was an interesting read :) is it normal for parents to dig their eggs under the nesting material? She currently has 5 eggs but she hides them under the shavings, maybe from me I worry that she might not incubate them

@Shezbug and thank you for bumping!

I’m prepared to handrear, I was just curious since she currently has more eggs with her that maybe she would care for one of these babies :)

Do you have a picture?

Also, do you have the lay dates for each egg? Maybe you can check for signs of life depending on age

A picture of the nest?

No :( I don’t have the exact lay dates but maybe two weeks? I’ll keep an eye on it

I haven't bred Quakers so my experience with conures may not apply. I have had green cheek pairs accept chicks that have hatched with other pairs as long as they currently have the same size chicks. As for putting incubated chicks back in with the original parents, I don't know. If they have hatchlings around the same age, you might be able to get away with it.
