I am fostering a Goffin’s, and this little guy can be a menace! I have fostered other Goffins before, but Casper is a notch above anyone else. In his previous home, he had basically zero toys (some empty chains were hanging in the cage), and he was kept in a room with three boisterous male U2‘s. I rotate his toys, but when he is out of his cage, he needs a job or a puzzle of some kind. We are working on target training, but his attention span is short so that only lasts 2 or 3 minutes out of every hour. He prefers to be on top of my Hahn’s cage, but this is stressing her out. He bangs around her cage (or his own), lifting up food dishes, trying to pull toys through the bars, pulling papers out of the grate, etc. He gets his pellets in foraging trays, and I have a stainless steel baffle cage that I load with broken toy parts and nuts wrapped in cupcake papers and some fresh veggies and so forth. I also give him foot toys made of corrugated paper rolls stuffed with paper and a pine nut in the shell, with a birdie bagel around the outside — these are some of his favorite things! But I don’t want to give him too many treats.
again, I think he needs a job or a puzzle of some sort… and since it is sidewalk sale time, does anyone have a recommendation for us?
