That sounds like normal fledgling. They will become very active and lose some weight as they are flying about all the time and burning energy. I'd keep him stocked in his favorite foods to make sure he's getting enough calories.The baby is zooming around, we're watching him constantly. But problem is he's eating very less. He has absolutely refused to take any formula preparation, but not eating pellets or sprouts also. I checked his weight, it's 190 gm ( 20 gm less than last week). Poop is normal but less in volume. His entire focus is on trying to fly. He's not playing with other toys and ha become quite vocal.
I'm worried, friends. @Zara, @Monica please comment.
Thanks dear, I was so worried...I've never dealt with babies, you know.That sounds like normal fledgling. They will become very active and lose some weight as they are flying about all the time and burning energy. I'd keep him stocked in his favorite foods to make sure he's getting enough calories.
@BrianB @Matto @melissasparrots
Thanks. Keep us up to date on your Alex. I love them. It’s never dull with a life full of macaws. At the moment I’m at work showing the calendar to the hyacinth and counting out my vacation days for him. He knows my schedule very well and I don’t want him being a nightmare to everyone while I’m gone. We’ll see how that goes.Thanks @BrianB, it's so nice to hear from you. How is your macaw experience going on this year?
Yes.@Monica, are you talking about this?Pictures - Alexandrine neck-ring?
The neck ring is males only .. Right? And still takes like 2~ years to develop? Does it also show in juvenile females..? This is Gale, 3 months(ish) DNA'd female. The flash brings it out better, but it's definitely there. I noticed it pretty quickly once I looked at her from the front...forums.avianavenue.com
That's just what he's doing. Thank you so much. I was getting worried even this evening.Yes.
@SumitaSinh I agree with @BrianB of this being pretty normal behavior. Many people start struggling to get babies to eat food once they start to REALLY explore and try to fly! They'll be able to get a *little* bit of food into the baby and they baby just takes off flying!
I would also suggest working on recall training this baby so that if he/she ever ends up somewhere you can't reach, you can always call the baby back to you!
Thanks. Only one problem, he has stopped allowing harness also. Just flying away after looking at it.Great update!
