GCC with a broken leg advice

Hello everyone! Last Monday (11/6/23) my GCC, Jasper, had an accident and resulted in him breaking his leg. He was immediately rushed to the emergency vet and he was sent home in a cone and splint/cast for the leg. For the time from when we brought him to his check up yesterday he is doing very good. He is currently on four different medications that he takes every 12 hours. He's still eating, drinking and pooping normally as well. The only thing is that he doesn't make all the same noises like he used to which isn't a major thing, obviously. We keep him in a large clear bin with a towel, rolled up towel for a perch, a bowl, water, and some of his treats. I wanted to say all of this just so everyone kind of has a clear image of his background and current environment. Moving on, we took his for his check up at the exotic vet yesterday (11/14/23) where they put on a new splint/cast, and an even bigger cone. I was also told that he is not able to grip well with the foot, but was reactive when the vet touched his toes and said that his leg/foot is warm. The vet said to come in again this coming Saturday so she can check on the wound on his leg that occurred when his leg broke. (the bones pierced his skin a little)

My question is, has anyone else also experienced something similar? If so, please let me know all the details of how your birds healed, what you did for them during the healing process, how long it took, etc. I've owned birds for almost half my life now and never had something like this happen before, so I'm trying to take this as easy as I can, but it's hard when you love your pets so much. Thank you for reading. :)

Oh no! Sorry the little guy broke his leg. I don’t have any advice but I’m sure someone will come along who does :) good luck with the healing process, sounds like things are going well so far!

Here's the link if you wanna read in the mean time. Marvin's foot was broken but I'm sure in a lot of regards the advice and process/progress would be similar enough that insight from Marvin's situation would help.

You're quite welcome. I'm so sorry that the both of you are going through this. Your Jasper is absolutely precious though.
Thank you so much :,) We’ve only had him for less than a year too! Technically he’s my older brothers bird, but he had to give him up due to the other animals in his home putting Jasper at risk. We’ve had Jasper since february and he’s absolutely stolen our hearts. I’ve never had conures before until we had to bring Jasper in but, wow! I never truly knew just how much personality these birds have. So sorry for rambling on, I just have a passion for parrots haha

I absolutely understand. Conures are my heart and soul birds especially Green Cheeks. They will always be everything to me they're so special and unique.

Lol! I know the feeling of trying not to have a favorite but you just can’t help it! I have 7 other birds (two parakeets, another conure, and 4 cockatiels) My albino cockatiel, Vanilla is going on 6 years with me but I’d be lying if I said Jasper wasn’t the household favorite. I still love my Vanilla though. (as you can see through my username)

Welcome to the forum Alex and Jasper.

It sounds like Jasper is in good caring hands and is getting the treatment he needs.

I documented most of Marvin's misadventure in the thread @April shared, but am happy to help in any way I can while you guys navigate Jasper's treatment and recovery.

In the meantime, here's a blurry photo of Marvin from a few days ago balanced on her previously broken foot...
