Hi, I have a zebra finch boy who I noticed has started overpreening this week (around 3 days ago) and very often dropping feathers during that. This made me worried since I know that zebra finches do not molt like canaries etc. He appears more tired since he started doing that. We have been to the vet and been told that he doesn't have parasites. However, he has microphthalmia in one eye since he was born so he cannot see with that eye, we treated it with antibiotics last november because there was pus, but this was a different vet.
But this vet suggested we do one more round of antibiotics + eye drops for 14 days as there was a tiny bit of clear liquid near the eye. However not sure what to think about the feathers and the general tiredness. I am feeding a seed mix, occasionally an egg mix, crushed oyster shells for his girlfriend, some red millet and a bit of niger + daily either an apple or romaine lettuce. They get between 12-13 hours of sleep every night. He is 4 years old.
They also have pellets but they don't like those.
