Teaching IRN Tricks

Hi all!

I'm just coming on here to ask if anyone had advice regarding teaching an IRN tricks? I'd love to be able to teach mine to do things such as high-five and what not, just unsure how to go about it!

P.S., if you have managed to teach your IRN a trick, please tell me which one/s! I'm always interested to learn what else my baby could do if taught

I don’t have a IRN but I’ve taught budgie lovebirds and green cheeks tricks

wave flip (around perch or my finger )
shake hands turn around tunnel under hands most of mine can do
Pip can fetch a little toy to a bowl

to be fair I watch Ellie and the birds utube videos took out the bits I needed added bits I found easier

but my budgie I had years ago Henry could turn around he just followed millet
Lovebirds loved millet

but best thing for gcc are safflower seeds it needs to be a quick treat and millet they just hold in their hands

Keep it short and sweet I only do do when they want to interact with me
do it in same place to start so they have rope perches on front of their cages
Break it down into parts have a set word and set visual action for each trick so they know what you want from them

My IRN is currently in his bluffing stage so all could be better , he is around 6 months old!

Yes!! He's a little cutie but quite the nipper. Awesome page turner too. We love playing cards with him and of course he is the dealer.

We are just waiting for his first moult so that his clipped wings can grow back!

What an absolute stunner!! He is gorgeous.

My IRN can spin, wave (left and right!), shake hands and the obvious step up etc.

In my experience, they learn extremely quick once they understand they're being trained.. if that makes sense..

Wave, I started by doing a step up and clicked the clicker the second his foot was in the air, before touching down on my finger. Repeated this loads of times and eventually wiggled my finger to trigger the trick. The finger wiggle gradually turned into a wave. He now does it with both hands, when I wave right, he waves right and vice versa!

Clicker training and target training are an absolute must, and lots of tasty treats of course. (Almonds, walnuts and pecans are his favourite)
