Hi everyone. I just want to know your thoughts and experiences on my situation right now. We just got an 8y.o. RFM 1 week ago. We are lucky since she is such a gently bird to everyone. I think she has bonded with my 13 yo daughter and constantly calls her throughout the day. She quiets down and talks when she is around and loves to be with her. But her calling is non stop almost once every 30sec. She quiets down when we put her back on her cage for a nap or when she is covered up to sleep at night and does not make a peep until I uncover her in the morning. Is this a part of her adjustment period or this is due to her being bonded with my daughter. Is there anything we can do to help her. I understand we need to get to know each other more (our routine, what she wants) she still is not eating well since we got her. Thanks.

Try your very hardest to not reinforce that behaviour (talking back to her screams, giving attention, even turning the tv up can be reinforcing) Reward only the behaviour you want to see (or hear). Many birds are “one person” birds, Try to keep the socialisation between the whole family at an equal to avoid aggression.

I’m not too knowledgeable on macaws but there are many fantastic people on AA like @Shezbug and @Macawnutz who might be able to give a little more insight from their own experiences! I wish you the best of luck with the new bird  (and maybe invest in some ear plugs for now, i hear macaws can break sound barriers eek)
